A 25-year-old female hiker was transported to the hospital Sunday night in serious condition after falling in Little Cottonwood Canyon.

The department received calls about a unconscious female in the Lisa Falls area Sunday afternoon, Unified Police Detective Ken Hansen said. Hansen said the hiker wasn't wearing proper hiking footwear, slipped and was knocked unconscious.

The rescue effort by UPD and Unified Fire officers required rigging and hiking about one-tenth of a mile to carry the patient out because the trail area is steep and wet from the falls, Hansen said.

The hiker has not been identified.
