Lt. Darren Falslev has been appointed interim chief of the American Fork Police Department, the city announced Thursday.

Falslev, who has been on the force since March 1992, will lead the department during the search for a new chief.

City Administrator Craig Whitehead made the appointment, which follows the resignation of Chief Lance Call, who stepped down to pursue other opportunities.

Call, who had been with the department since November 2005, submitted his resignation at the beginning of May, and his last day was Wednesday.

Falslev has been working with the Utah County Major Crimes Task Force for the past several years. He has a master's degree in public administration from Andrew Jackson University in Birmingham, Ala., and is a part-time adjunct professor at Utah Valley University, where he teaches criminal justice management and other law enforcement-related classes.
