Springville police are crediting Facebook and an alert Utah woman for the capture late Tuesday night of two Seattle-area fugitive sex offenders.

Springville police Lt. David Caron said the fugitives, Glen Feinman and Deanna Tampico, both 33, had fled Washington state on April 27 after cutting off their court-ordered ankle monitors.

In social media alerts issued by the U.S. Marshals Office, Feinman was described as a convicted child rapist who had served seven years in prison; Tampico was accused of having participated in producing and participating in child pornography involving a homeless teenage girl.

On April 30, Nephi police located the couple's car, packed with personal belongings, abandoned near an Interstate 15 interchange. The fugitives' pictures were re-broadcast by local law enforcement on social media and news agencies.

On Tuesday, a woman shopping at the Wal-Mart in Springville recognized the two and called police.

"When Springville officers arrived [at the store] they contacted the couple, who gave false information about their identities. However, officers already had found the press release from Nephi and had their photographs," Caron said Wednesday. "Once confronted with the news, Glen Feinman attempted to break away from the officers. He was quickly taken into custody. Tampico was also taken into custody."

The two were booked into the Utah County jail on suspicion of felony obstruction of justice and providing false information to police officers. However, it was expected the pair — held on "no bail" felony warrants — would be extradited to Washington state.

"Thanks to a quick-thinking citizen, two very dangerous criminals are now behind bars," Caron said.
