South Jordan police arrested a man after he allegedly crashed into a backyard, fled and hid in a woman's vehicle.

Shortly before 5 a.m. Saturday, a black Ford F150 went off the road near 11400 S. 4150 West, drove through a fence and rolled into a backyard — narrowly missing the house, according to South Jordan police. The driver fled, but left his license behind, the police said in a news release.

Later that day, a real estate agent in South Jordan was showing a home when she heard her car alarm go off. Everything looked all right, so she moved on to a second home. When she came back to her vehicle, she saw "the backseat down and legs sticking out," and called the police.

Officers arrived and arrested the man, who was their suspect from the crash.

He allegedly admitted to driving the truck and said that he was "running for his life," for reasons that police have not determined, the news release says. After the crash, he fled and allegedly entered a garage through an unsecured side door, and hid inside the real estate agent's vehicle, the release adds.

"We are very fortunate that the suspect was only seeking a hiding spot," Master Officer Samuel Winkler said in a statement. "… It's a great reminder to double-check that all doors and windows to your residence are secured at night."

The suspect was taken to the hospital for his injuries.

The damage from the crash is estimated at more than $1,000, and the Ford F150 is a total loss.
