A former substitute teacher with the Ogden School District has been arrested and charged with felony rape of a 15-year-old female student.

Justin James Davenport, 34, was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon by Ogden police at the conclusion of a six-week investigation. The girl, now 17, alleged that Davenport repeatedly had sexual contact with her beginning when she was a student of his at Highland Junior High School in January 2013 and continuing into November 2014.

Davenport remained in the Weber County jail on Wednesday in lieu of $180,000 bail bond.

He has been charged in 2nd District Court with first-degree felony counts of rape and forcible sodomy, and one second-degree felony count of forcible sexual abuse.

School district officials said Davenport taught geography and history at Highland Junior High during the 2012-2013 school year. He was terminated for undisclosed reasons on May 24, 2013, district spokesman Zac Williams said.

The district declined to further discuss Davenport, citing the ongoing nature of the case. However, Williams did confirm that the district had referred his teaching license for review by the Utah State Office of Education.

The case has been assigned to 2nd District Judge Joseph Bean, before whom Davenport is to appear on April 9.
