Investigators expect to determine next week whether an Eagle Mountain woman acted in self-defense in the shooting death of her husband, which occurred a month ago Friday.

Elwin Dale Hitesman, 33, was killed the night of Feb. 27 in an apparent domestic dispute. Dispatchers received a 911 call from his wife, Tiana Sheryl Hitesman, who said she had just shot her husband, according to the Utah County Sheriff's Office.

Emergency responders arrived and found Elwin Hitesman had died from two gunshots from a revolver. Tiana Hitesman, 31, was released after detectives questioned her.

Four children, ages 1 to 9, were in the home at the time of the shooting, though it was not immediately clear whether they witnessed the shooting.

Investigators expect to finish conducting follow-up interviews and examining evidence soon, Utah County sheriff's Sgt. Spencer Cannon said Thursday.

Utah court records show that Elwin Hitesman has been convicted of misdemeanor simple assault three times, in 2000, 2001 and 2007. He also has been convicted of a handful of other misdemeanors in the same time frame, including public intoxication and traffic violations.

Tiana Hitesman has no criminal record beyond a number of traffic-related offenses, court records show.
