Investigators from Utah Transit Authority and state and federal transportation safety agencies on Wednesday were looking into a collision between two TRAX light rail trains in South Salt Lake.

UTA spokesman Remi Barron said the investigations stemmed from a Tuesday 2 p.m. incident near 2200 South and 200 West. A northbound Blue Line train and an eastbound Green Line train, making its turn from the West Valley tracks to the northbound lane, collided at low speeds.

About 60 passengers were on the two trains. No injuries were reported, except for a 46-year-old woman who complained of minor knee pain as she exited the Blue Line train. She was taken to the hospital as a precaution, Barron said.

As of Wednesday, the preliminary investigation had not determined whether the crash, apparently caused when one train went through a red signal light, was due to operator error.

However, UTA did note that no evidence had been found that "electronics, mechanics, switches and onboard train systems" had malfunctioned, Barron said.

All UTA employees involved in the accident, including operators and controllers, were placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the probe.

The TRAX system was operating on a regular schedule Wednesday morning.
