A heroin dealer, his customers and the suspect's 5-year-old son all were taken into custody during a midnight drug bust, police say.

The arrests occurred not in some seedy metropolitan back alley, but early Tuesday morning in the quiet Utah County bedroom community of Alpine: population about 9,500.

Lone Peak police, who patrol both Alpine and neighboring Highland, learned last week of an alleged drug house operating in the 400 East block of 100 South, near Alpine's Creekside Park. About 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, search warrant in hand, police raided the residence.

While arresting the 20-year-old suspected drug dealer and recovering heroin and a variety of other drugs, along with scales, cash and paraphernalia at the home, police found a car with a 5-year-old boy inside. The boy was turned over to an aunt; his father, a 29-year-old convicted burglar and drug user, was arrested and remained in the Utah County Jail on Wednesday on an Adult Probation and Parole hold.

The alleged dealer was being held behind bars in lieu of $20,000 cash-only bail on suspicion of felony drug distribution counts. He also faced enhanced prosecution for dealing in a drug-free zone, due to the nearby park frequented by children.

Police also arrested a 30-year-old man and his 31-year-old female companion after stopping a car seen leaving the raided residence. The man allegedly swallowed his recent heroin purchase, was taken to the hospital for observation and then released to be booked on suspicion of heroin possession and driving under influence of drugs.

The female, too, remained in jail Wednesday, also held on an Adult Probation and Parole order and drug charges.
