A former Davis County jail officer has been charged with having sex with a female inmate.

Michael David Mueller, 51, is charged in 2nd District Court with one count of third-degree felony custodial sexual relations.

A female inmate at the jail reported she performed oral sex on Mueller in September, according charging documents.

Mueller allegedly admitted that the sexual episode occurred while he was working as a correctional officer at the jail.

An initial court appearance for Mueller is set for March 30.

He faces the possibility of up to five years in prison, if convicted as charged.

Mueller was fired in late September after about six years on the job.

The sheriff's office asked Farmington police to investigate the matter.
