Three suspects wanted in Taylorsville shooting that killed 30-year-old man

Unified police are searching for three suspects involved in a fatal shooting Sunday morning in Taylorsville.

According to the Unified Police Department, officers responded to reports of a shooting at 10:11 a.m. Sunday near the 700 block of West Sunny River Road. There, they found a 30-year-old man shot and in critical condition, UPD Detective Jared Richardson said in a news release. The victim later died at a local hospital. He has not yet been identified.

Richardson said police are looking for two men and a woman involved in the homicide.

The female suspect allegedly knocked on the door of an apartment while the two male suspects waited around the corner. When the door opened, the men forced their way inside. The woman did not enter the apartment, the release said.

At some point, one of the suspects shot the victim, then trio fled, running east. Three other adults were in the apartment at the time.

The suspects are described as a tall African-American man, 40 years old, wearing a black beanie and black clothing, including “Carhartt-style” jeans; a short Hispanic man, 20 to 30 years old, wearing black clothes, including “Carhartt-style” jeans; and a woman wearing a black and red hoodie and light-colored pants.

Richardson said the suspects may be driving a black 1980s Ford Mustang convertible with red stripes down the sides. The vehicle has low-profile tires with gold rims that extend past the fender and chipped paint with primer showing through.

Anyone with information about the suspects or vehicle should call UPD at 801-743-7000.
