Man who allegedly stole Herriman packages and fired at a witness is arrested in Nevada

A man accused of stealing packages — and who fired a gun at a witness in Herriman last week — has been arrested in Nevada, police said Monday.

The 28-year-old man, who Unified Police said was a convicted felon, was arrested Monday at a West Wendover motel. The man does not have a criminal history in Utah, court records show. The witness reported the car the man was traveling in had out-of-state license plates.

He was booked into the Elko County, Nevada, jail on suspicion of attempted murder and theft, police said in a news release.

The woman who was reportedly driving the car during the alleged package theft was arrested at the same time, said Ken Hansen, spokesman for Unified police .

Hansen said police are withholding the woman’s name out of fear that a third party might destroy evidence if her name is published in relation to the case.

The man’s car was also located and seized. Unified officers on Monday were processing evidence in Nevada, the news release said. Hansen said he did not know what was found in the car.

On Wednesday afternoon, the suspect and a woman were stealing packages from the doorsteps of homes in Herriman when a passer-by saw them and took pictures of the alleged thieves’ car.

The witness later told police that when the pair realized they were being followed, the male fired a shot at the witness with a black handgun, police have said.

At that point, the witness, who was not hit, stopped following the pair.
