Transmission line outage leaves nearly 9,000 customers without electricity in Utah, Idaho and Wyoming

Thousands living near the borders of Utah, Idaho and Wyoming lost power Saturday night, according to Rocky Mountain Power.

The company reported more than 3,900 customers in Rich County, mostly near Garden City, were without power just before 7 p.m. The outage was first reported about 5:30 p.m.

About 4,700 customers across the border in Idaho’s Bear Lake County lost power about the same time. Approximately 400 Wyoming customers also were without power.

The outage stems from a power loss to a transmission line, which feeds nine substations in the tri-state area, spokeswoman Tiffany Erickson said.

Erickson said the crew doesn’t know what caused the transmission line outage. Because of that, it’s unclear how long customers will be without power.

Temperatures near Bear Lake on Saturday night are in the low 20s.
