West Jordan police say two men arrested after a brief SWAT standoff have been linked to a series of Salt Lake Valley robberies, including one Tuesday night that proved their undoing.

West Jordan police Sgt. Dan Roberts said the duo, ages 26 and 27, burst into the Mountain America Credit Union at 6700 Redwood Road about 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Clad in black masks and dark clothing, the men demanded cash from two tellers before fleeing on foot.

Roberts said what the suspects did not know was that a GPS tracking device went with them, wrapped up inside a bundle of money.

"Our officers were able to track them to a house [near 9300 S. Vista West Drive] and set up containment," Roberts said.

One of the suspects briefly exited the house but fled back inside when confronted by police. A SWAT team was then called to the scene, and the two men surrendered peacefully about 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Both men were being held without bail Wednesday after being booked into the Salt Lake County jail on suspicion of second-degree felony counts of aggravated robbery.
