West Valley City police on Saturday said a 41-year-old man died there after he was stabbed.

A 32-year-old man is cooperating with police, who are investigating whether he acted in self-defense. The stabbing happened near 3200 S. 2000 West.

West Valley City police Lt. Lamont Cox said a 41-year-old man from South Jordan visited the other man at his home. The two men were arguing.

At some point, the resident picked up a knife from a counter and stabbed the visitor, Cox said. The resident had bruising on his face, Cox said.

The names of the two men were not disclosed Saturday, and police were trying to determine how the men knew each other. It wasn't clear whether the man who survived was under arrest or remaining with police by his own will.
