A 5-year-old child died Saturday after being run over by a tractor.

The boy, whose name was not immediately released, was riding on the tractor with a family member Saturday morning in Henefer, near 1200 N. West Henefer Road. The child had been standing on a foot rest platform, on the left side of the John Deer tractor, when investigators believe he lost his balance fell about 11:40 a.m., according to a Summit County Sheriff's Office news release.

The relative had been driving the tractor to the local gas station to refuel. A second family member was following on an all-terrain vehicle and witnessed the accident, according to the release.

"After a tremendous effort by both North Summit EMS and the air ambulance flight crew, the child was pronounced deceased at the scene," the release reads.

The farming town of a little more than 800 people — the only incorporated town on the Mormon Pioneer Trail — is about two miles northwest of Echo Reservoir.

The sheriff's office will not be releasing the child's name, accoridng to its release.
