Conservation officers want to find whoever shot and killed a young deer in a Parowan neighborhood.

About 3 a.m. Sunday, a Parowan resident heard a single gunshot in his neighborhood, according to a Utah Division of Wildlife Resources statement released Friday. A conservation officer investigated and discovered a young buck deer had been shot and left to waste.

"Officers spoke with many upset neighbors in the area," the statement reads. "This deer was killed at night, in a residential area of Parowan, near several homes and a school."

Anyone with information about the poaching is asked to call the wildlife division's hotline at 1-800-662-3337. Rewards are available for information and the division states that it will respect requests for confidentiality.

"Officers are particularly concerned about this incident's close proximity to homes," according to the statement. "The person, or people, involved in this case demonstrated a reckless disregard for human safety and of wildlife laws and regulations."
