Las Vegas • As fans pack the sold-out MGM Grand this weekend, the future home of the Pac-12 Tournament might be just across the street.

The conference's athletic directors and presidents have been touring the T-Mobile Arena this week, a 20,000-seat venue that may be the next home of the conference's signature basketball event. The arena is scheduled to be completed by next month, and the Pac-12 is expected to announce this weekend if it will move the tournament to new digs.

Utah athletic director Chris Hill went on a tour Thursday and came away impressed.

"It's amazing all the detail and the infrastructure they have," he said. "It's a heck of a building. It's going to be an unbelievable flexible facility that can hold so many different events, from concerts to tournaments."

The arena already has a number of events booked for the year, including everything from UFC 200 to Garth Brooks. But it has the Pac-12 tournament in its sights, and after selling out for the first time ever ahead of the tournament, the event may be outgrowing the roughly 13,000-seat MGM Grand Garden Arena.

The new facility will have versatile seating and curtain arrangements to make it suitable for a variety of events with different expected crowds. It also has VIP hospitality seating, and will be fitted with charging stations for mobile devices. It is situated on the other side of Las Vegas Boulevard from the MGM Grand, so it wouldn't be a big move for the Pac-12 or its fans.

Hill said the university presidents are meeting over the weekend and should announce a decision on the new venue either Friday or Saturday. The conference is eager to keep the tournament in Las Vegas, where it has been since 2013.

"People, they love it," Hill said. "We have a lot of fans come down. It seems to be a great gathering place for our fans and other fans."

Poeltl honored by Sports Illustrated

Sophomore center Jakob Poeltl made his fifth All American list on Thursday when Sports Illustrated put him on its first team.

So far, Poeltl has made the first team for the Sporting News, USA Today, NBC Sports and ESPN aside from getting on the SI list. He's also a finalist or semifinalist for the Naismith, Wooden, Robertson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar awards after earning Pac-12 Player of the Year honors on Monday.

Poeltl is looking to become Utah's seventh consensus All American in program history.
