A high wind warning was in place Friday for the northern Wasatch Front with gusts of up to 70 mph expected in some areas, the National Weather Service(NWS) said.

The advisory is in place until noon with communities in Davis County expected to feel the brunt of the chilly blasts.

Forecaster predict sustained winds of 30 to 40 mph from Centerville north, and gusts of up to 70 mph near Farmington Canyon and along the Centerville bench.

Gusts of up to 55 mph are expected near the Logan and Weber canyons. Wind speeds near Parleys Canyon will be between 30 and 40 mph.

Homeowners are advised to secure outdoor furniture, loose lawn ornaments and holiday decorations, which could be at risk of becoming airborne and cause a hazard, the NWS said.

Travel on Interstate 15, the Legacy Highway and US 89 may also be affected by the high winds. Motorists, especially those in high-profile vehicles, are advised to take safety precautions, especially while crossing bridges or overpasses, and when driving in unsheltered areas.

Overnight monitoring along the Wasatch Front saw winds speeds top 65 in Farmington, 49 along the Bountiful bench and 48 on the University of Utah campus in Salt Lake City.
