Color me a bit surprised when BYU honored a couple reporters' interview requests today and brought center Tejan Koroma to the football offices lobby. And credit Koroma for coming.

For more than eight months now, speculation has run rampant regarding the sophomore's status for the season-opener at Nebraska. Koroma was one of the players involved in the Miami Beach Bowl brawl, and when coaches had him sit out of both scrimmages, it was seemingly a clue that he would be suspended in the opener.

So I asked Koroma today whether he will play or not on Saturday. He was a bit coy with his answers, to say the least.

"Well, uh, what is today?" he said. "Is today Tuesday? Game is on Saturday, I guess we will see Saturday how that goes. We are almost there. So, I guess we will see."

My guess is that if he were playing, he would just say so and move on.

Then I asked him if he will be on the airplane on Friday.

"Hopefully," he said. "You know what I mean?"

Then I asked him if he's been told not to say whether he will play or not.

"Yeah," he said. "We will just see on Saturday. We will just see how it goes."

Then I asked him what reason coaches gave him for not playing him in the scrimmages.

"Yeah, the coach talked to me a little bit about it. I think it was for the best interest of the team, maybe see who else could play center. Just things like that," he said. "Travis [Tuiloma] didn't play, a lot of starters didn't play. I think it was a health thing. I think it was just in the best interest of the team to keep me out."

In case you missed it, news broke Tuesday that BYU junior cornerback Michael Davis, a projected starter at boundary corner, has been charged with assault and rioting for an incident that occurred on July 29. Suddenly, his status for the opener is also in question.
