Troopers have identified a Sandy man, Graham Ambrose, as the man who died after a car hit him on State Route 201 in West Valley City.

Ambrose, 67, was traveling east on the road Thursday night when his Accord got a flat tire about 9 p.m. He pulled over at 5600 West and got out to change it while his wife, 63-year-old Lynette Ambrose, stayed in the car.

But while he was looking for tools in his trunk, the driver of an eastbound Acura lost control of the vehicle and ran into Ambrose and the back of the Accord, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.

The impact threw Ambrose 200 feet. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lynette Ambrose and the driver of the Accord, 21-year-old Anthony Lopez, of Clearfield, were both taken to the hospital in critical condition.

The crash remains under investigation.
