Beer and fine art mix at UMOCA

Tickets are on sale for Fluid Art, where guests explore fine art and the art of craft beer. For the event, eight Utah brewers will pair one of their brews with a piece of art in the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art's collection. Participating brewers are 2 Row Brewing, Desert Edge Brewery, Hoppers Grill & Brewing Co., Park City Brewery, Squatters Pubs & Beers, Talisman Brewing Co., Vernal Brewing Company and Wasatch Brewery.

Plant sales bloom next weekend

The gardening season kicks off next weekend with the annual plant sales for Red Butte Garden and Wasatch Community Gardens. Staff and volunteers are available at both events to help gardeners select the right plants and offer planting and growing tips. Almost all of the plants are grown by Utah farmers and local nurseries. All proceeds help fund the organizations and the free or low-cost community programs they offer throughout the year. Red Butte Garden • Saturday, May 7, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Red Butte Amphitheater, 300 Wakara Way. Details at redbuttegarden.org/spring-plant-sale. (Members-only sale, Friday, May 6, 1 to 8 p.m. Memberships can be purchased at the gate.)

Anniversary dinner at Avenues Proper

Avenues Proper will celebrate its third anniversary with a beer pairing dinner. Guests will enjoy a social hour, followed by a five-course dinner. Menu includes Utah elk, beer-poached halibut and spent-grain apple tart. Each course will be paired with a different Proper beer. Reservations required.

Park City French chef to lead team building program

Chef Clement Gelas has joined the faculty at the Park City Culinary Institute and will lead its corporate team-building program. Born and raised in France and a Park City resident since 2005, Gelas has served as executive chef at Wahso, the Waldorf Astoria Park City, and Talisker on Main. He will remain in his current position as Talisker's director of food and beverage, while adding his new role with the institute. "Learning how to cook as a team is great practice for improving employee communication, time management and problem-solving skills," he said.
