The Lake Powell concessionaire that rents houseboats on the big reservoir is so certain that heavy snows will result in deeper water that it is offering a Cut Open Guarantee to encourage guests to book houseboating vacations now. The idea behind the deal is that the Castle Rock Cut, a shortcut from Wahweap Marina to popular uplake destinations such as Rainbow Bridge, Padre Bay and Warm Creek Bay, will be open for the first time in more than five years during June or possibly sooner. The Cut Open Guarantee package will be available from June 15 to Oct. 31. It offers boaters a free day and $200 fuel credit if the Castle Rock Cut does not open. The shortcut requires an elevation of about 3,620 feet for boats to pass through. Under current inflow forecast, Lake Powell would peak at 3,628 feet in July 2008, according to the Bureau of Reclamation.
