When a Murray woman opened her door to a uniformed city police officer who had come calling Monday night, her imagination might have hit on just about every reason a police officer would be there except the actual one.

It turns out that her neighbors had called the police because she has hanging on her living room wall an abstract oil painting of a woman, colored blue, in a reclining position exposing her bare breasts.

Some junior high school boys in the neighborhood had noticed the painting through the woman's large bay window, so the area across the street from her home had become a gathering place of sorts for hormone-crazy kids to get their prepubescent kicks.

One boy told his mother about it, and out came the torches and pitchforks.

Murray police spokesman Kenny Bass said the officer just went to the woman's house to alert her that neighbors were complaining. It makes one wonder why the neighbors were not concerned about their children being peeping Toms.

Sawing logs? With the Cottonwood Mall being demolished to make way for a new development at the Holladay site, Salt Lake County's Unified Fire Authority arranged with developer General Growth Properties to use the condemned building for training.

As firefighters were cutting through walls to practice entering dangerous areas, they found one spot difficult to penetrate. The saw kept hitting a particularly hard surface.

It turns out Macy's, which opted to remain open, had its bedroom-furniture showroom on the other side of the wall that the saw was trying to penetrate. The saw was cutting into an expensive bedroom set headboard.

Fire Authority spokesman Jay Torgerson says the agency has made its amends with Macy's and compensated it for the damage.

Missing some tools? Jeff Thompson was driving on 2000 East just north of 3300 South on Wednesday afternoon when the back door of a white van in front of him flew open and several tools fell out. Thompson stopped, picked up the tools and then tried to catch the van. He went back to the spot hoping the driver would notice the lost tools and turn around.

So if you are the owner of the white van and lost some tools, call or e-mail me at The Tribune and I will get you in touch with Thompson.

Where's Waldo? Mitt Romney has changed his positions so many times, he even has the media confused.

During Tuesday night's coverage of the New Hampshire primary elections, CBS news had a crawler at the bottom of the screen giving updates on the election returns during its regular programming. It projected "Mitt Romney (D)," to finish second.
