Rescue crews called twice for same person

Davis County search and rescue crews went to Mueller Park twice Monday to rescue a Syracuse father and son. Authorities received the first call about 10 a.m. when the wife of 49-year-old Randy Baird reported her husband and 10-year-old son Jonathan did not return home on time from a camping trip. Searchers found the pair near Kenny Creek. They were uninjured. Randy Baird told authorities there had been a miscommunication between him and his wife, Lt. Brad Wilcox said. Family members were expected to retrieve the horse, which was not injured, Monday afternoon.

Ex-physician will spend year in federal prison

A Utah former physician who admitted defrauding Medicare will spend the next year in a federal prison. As part of an agreement with prosecutors, Larry Stoddard had pleaded guilty to one count of health care fraud for failing to directly supervise the hyperbaric oxygen therapy of patients. The therapy consists of exposing the entire body to 100 percent oxygen at greater than atmospheric pressure to treat, among other conditions, acute carbon monoxide poisoning and decompression illness. Medicare rules require that the therapy be performed by a physician or under the direction of a physician. Stoddard, who has surrendered his license to practice medicine, was accused of carrying out the fraud from February 2002 to September 2003 at his Utah Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy business.
