A Utah music scene institution that closed its doors after more than 32 years is back, but with a scaled-down operation.
Guitar Czar, the former Murray music store, reopened last month as an instrument repair shop at 2212 S. West Temple in South Salt Lake.
Owner Mason Morris told The Salt Lake Tribune in October that the decision to close Guitar Czar stemmed from tariffs, online shopping and general economic downturn.
Members of the music community mourned the closure, especially the loss of the store’s repair shop, which helped keep musicians’ instruments in good shape.
The repair shop reopened in mid-November and prides itself on being “the only Plek service center in the Intermountain West,“ according to the store’s website. Plek refers to Plek Pro, a computer-guided tool that helps technicians repair and set up guitars.
