Red-hot Real Salt Lake beats the Philadelphia Union

RSL wins 2-1 and improves to 4-0-2 in its past six matches, moving to the top of the MLS Western Conference.

Defender Alexandros Katranis scored in the 89th minute as Real Salt Lake beat the host Philadelphia Union 2-1 in a Major League Soccer game on Saturday to extend its unbeaten streak to six matches.

RSL (5-2-3) won its second straight game and improved to 4-0-2 in its past six, moving into a tie with the LA Galaxy atop the MLS Western Conference standings.

Real Salt Lake also handed Philadelphia (3-1-4) its first loss of the MLS season.

Katranis scored the game-winner off an assist from midfielder Maikel Chang.

Andres Gomez gave Real Salt Lake a 1-0 lead in the 34th minute off an assist from Chicho Arango.

Philadelphia’s Daniel Gadzag evened the scored in the 50th minute with an assist from Quinn Sullivan.

Real Salt Lake will return home from a successful two-game road swing to host Sporting Kansas City on May 4 at America First Field.
